Increased Fracture Risk

WARNING! Osteoporosis Drugs Increase Fracture Risk!

That’s right! Scientific studies prove that Osteoporosis drugs (bisphophonates) do not really build bone. Instead, they are bone hardeners. You see, our bones are “living” tissue, that can regenerate and strengthen themselves, as long as you know what to do. In fact 5-10% of all our bone tissue is renewed during one year!

Bisphophonates, such as Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva, Reclast, etc. stop new bone from forming and leave you with old dried-up and brittle bones that are more prone to fracture. Yes, your bones may be harder and denser, but they are also dry and brittle.

That’s why a recent edition of The New York Times (Published July 15, 2008) featured an article titled “Drugs to Build Bones May Weaken Them.”

ABC News Investigative Reports: Fosamax May Actually Cause Bones to Weaken

The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and many others report on the dangers!

The reason that drugs like Foxamax appear to build dense bones

Bone is living tissue. It is normal for bones to constantly repair themselves and build new bone "tissue." Our bones continually get tiny micro-fractures. This is perfectly normal and our bones heal themselves naturally. Even when we get a full fracture, our bones immediately begin healing generate new bone. So it is logical that we can easily rebuild lost bone mass!

With proper nutrition and regular physical activity, bones will naturally regenerate. Many studies have shown that nursing home residents in their late 80s were able to rebuild bone mass doing light exercises and taking the right combinations of calcium, vitamin D and essential minerals.

The Misleading "Quick Fix"

But some feel that once we loose bone mass it is impossible to rebuild it. Instead of looking for the REASON we lost bone mass and returning to natural living—eating the right foods, eliminating bone damaging medications from our lives, taking the essential minerals and vitamins—many turn to doctors for a "quick fix." The mistaken belief that it is impossible to rebuild bone mass through natural changes in our eating habits and life style has let many to turn to prescription drugs—the same drugs that have been shown to cause more bone fractures!

Fosamax and Other Bisphosphonate Drugs are Really Bone Hardeners

Many have turned to bisphosphonate drugs such as Fosamax. The way these drugs work is that they dramatically reduce bone loss by preventing the recycle of old worn-out segments of bone. But this natural process of removing worn out bones is essential in order for our bodies to replace this worn out bone with new, stronger bone! Fosamax dramatically reduces bone breakdown but in the process new bone formation is also decreased. In fact, studies show that the bone-forming surface of bone is suppressed by 60-90% with the usual dose of bisphosphonates. As Dr. Susan Ott notes, "Many people believe that these drugs are 'bone builders,' but the evidence shows they are actually bone hardeners."

In bone density tests, Foxamax appears to increase bone density. But bones made artificially dense by drugs like Foxamax are not healthy bones; they become more brittle and more likely to fracture! Anti-resorptive drugs like Fosamax and Actonel, simply halt bone breakdown—they do not actually build new bone. If you take these drugs you generate little new bone. And the older bone becomes denser than the newer bone; there is less water and more minerals in the bone and bone mass measurements show a higher density. But this old bone simply becomes more and more dense and becomes more and more brittle! It is not like dense hard, new healthy bone. It is simply old, worn out old brittle—but dense—bone.

Learn How You Can Naturally Treat Osteoporosis Without Dangerous Drugs!

I know how much pain can result from not having answers or solutions … and how much damage osteoporosis can do to a family that's never had the right information before.

With the information I learned, I would be able to help other families overcome, and even prevent, the tremendous obstacles my mom has had to conquer.

Finally, I Found The Solution

Even after those months of research were over, I kept in touch with support groups and kept talking to people who had osteoporosis. When they heard that I had done all of this research and that I was helping my mom, they started asking for my help, too. So I did. Some of them even suggested that I write a book because they knew, like I did, that there simply wasn't enough good information out there.

One of my friends finally said, "Don't you think it's your duty to share what you know with other people so they don't have to suffer like your mom did?"

That made me think. The truth is I would have done ANYTHING to get all of the information I have now in order to help my mom. If I could have had everything in some type of report or book, then things would have been so much easier for me, my dad ... and of course, my mom.
